PGS releases first data from deepwater Egypt 3D survey

PGS has issued early results from its 6,175-sq-km EGY23 Merneith & Luxor multiclient survey offshore northern Egypt.

OSLO, NorwayPGS issued early results in late March from its 6,175-sq-km EGY23 Merneith & Luxor multiclient survey offshore northern Egypt.

According to the company, this is the first 3D seismic data acquired over the deepwater area between the Nile delta and the Herodotus Basin, and it is a co-operation with the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Co. (EGAS).

The barely explored and unlicensed area was previously covered solely by 2D seismic.

A Messinian evaporite layer of variable thickness extends across most of the region. PGS’ survey is tied to the Kiwi-1 well, one of the few drilled in the deepwater area. Main targets are thought to be presalt Oligo-Miocene structures with clastic reservoirs.

PGS acquired the survey using its GeoStreamer technology, designed to provide broadband data delivering low and high-frequency information for use in structural interpretation and rock property analysis.
