The Oil Exploration Company announced the completion of the 2D seismic survey program for the Two Centuries Project in Najaf Governorate. The project was completed under the patronage and support of the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Engineer Hayyan Abdul-Ghani Al-Sawad, and with the follow-up of the Undersecretary of the Ministry for Extraction Affairs, Mr. Basim Mohammed Khudair, and the supervision of the company's Director General, Mr. Osama Raouf Hussein.
The project was implemented as part of the plans to develop oil exploration operations in the country, in an important step aimed at expanding the geological database and enhancing the chances of discovering new hydrocarbon reservoirs of oil and gas.
The company's Director General, Mr. Osama Raouf Hussein, explained that the achievement was accomplished entirely by Iraqi hands. The staff of the Second Seismic Team were able to carry out the survey operations with high efficiency despite the geographical and logistical challenges faced by the work teams in the project areas. These challenges included the remote desert location, limited communication, and the vast distances that made obtaining daily supplies difficult. He noted that the operations were carried out in accordance with approved technical and environmental standards to ensure operational safety and environmental protection. The General Manager indicated that the company continues to provide full support to the seismic teams working in the field, as they form the cornerstone of oil exploration operations. He emphasized the commitment to overcoming any technical or logistical obstacles that the teams may face, ensuring the smooth flow of work and achieving results within the specified timeframes and according to the highest occupational safety standards. He commended the efforts of the Field Operations Authority and the management and staff of the Second Seismic Team for their dedication and high level of competence.
The program was implemented by the Second Seismic Team of the company's Field Operations Authority. The total length of the seismic survey reached approximately 2,850 kilometers, with 47,500 energy points completed, achieving a 100% completion rate and completing the project approximately 12 days ahead of schedule. The Director General added that the completion of the seismic survey program in Najaf Governorate will pave the way for more advanced stages in future exploration projects. He emphasized that these efforts contribute to expanding Iraq's hydrocarbon resource map, thereby enhancing investment opportunities in the oil sector and providing a significant boost to the national economy.
The project was implemented for the Chinese company Al-Qarnain as part of the licensing rounds (Annex 5 and 6), through which the Ministry of Oil aims to bolster Iraq's hydrocarbon reserves of oil and gas.
