Angolan independent Alfort Petroleum has announced it is preparing a well proposal for Block KON 8, targeted for Q2, 2026. The proposal will be submitted to Angola’s national concessionaire the National Oil, Gas & Biofuels Agency (ANPG) and joint venture partners for approval.
The announcement was made by Gianni Martins, General Manager, Alfort Petroleum on the first day of the Angola Oil & Gas 2025 conference and exhibition in Luanda.
Alfort Petroleum, operator of the onshore block, recently completed seismic data acquisition and is advancing plans for its first exploration well. The proposal will outline key elements including the well’s objective, location, design and schedule, supported by geological and geophysical insights from seismic studies.
“The Kwanza Basin is a major basin in Angola, where not much has been done because most international oil companies are focused on the offshore,” stated Martins, adding, “So, we took advantage of the regional seismic data. We’re seeing things the previous operator couldn’t see, so that is why there is this level of excitement.”
According to industry standards, the document will include well design and engineering details such as trajectory, casing and cementing, drilling fluids, and completion plans. It will also provide cost estimates, economic analysis and a project timeline.
Alfort Petroleum is expected to highlight its health, safety and environmental strategy, with risk assessments and mitigation measures aligned with international standards. The company will also confirm compliance with Angolan regulations and ANPG requirements.
The Block KON 8 proposal marks a key step in Alfort Petroleum’s development strategy, reinforcing Angola’s broader objectives to expand onshore exploration and production capacity.
