HOUSTON  Equinor Canada has issued a letter of intent (LoI) to KBR Industrial Canada to perform the FEED for the topside facilities for the new FPSO serving the deepwater Bay Du Nord development offshore Newfoundland.

This will comprise various oil discoveries in water depths of 650 m to 1,170 m, at a location 500 km northeast of St. John’s in the Flemish Pass Basin.

The LoI includes an option for continuation of detailed design and procurement management services through to final completion of the FPSO.

KBR undertook pre-FEED engineering for the project in 2022. The new program will help advance progress to FID, with first production targeted in the late 2020s.

During the FEED process, KBR will continue to support Equinor on development of an onboard combined cycle power system and other technologies designed to minimize emissions and crew numbers and to maximize digital solutions.

The company will execute the work scope with Hatch, a multidisciplinary engineering, project management and professional services provider firm with a local office in St. John's, providing Equinor with an integrated team in Canada and London.
