The Norwegian Ocean Industry Authority (Havtil) has carried out an audit of Equinor and its follow-up of well integrity at Statfjord C and its associated satellites.
The audit was conducted from 16 to 22 January 2026.
Objective
The objective of the audit was to verify that well integrity at Statfjord C complies with regulatory requirements and the company锟絪 own internal requirements, so as to reduce the likelihood of failures, hazards and accidents.
Result
The audit identified seven non-conformities in the following areas:
锟 Failure to communicate information about which well barrier elements have been compromised
锟 Deficient training on identified hazard and accident situations
锟 Lack of identification and risk assessment of barrier elements in previous well trajectories
锟 Lack of a programme for temporarily abandoned/plugged wells
锟 Shortcomings in the follow-up and documentation of well barrier schematics
锟 Inadequate requirements for the qualification of creeping formation as a well barrier element
锟 Deficient notification of well incidents to the supervisory authority
No improvement points were identified during this audit.
What happens now?
We have asked Equinor to report by 20 April 2026 on how the non-conformities will be addressed.
