Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. (head office: Chuo-ku, Osaka, President: Osamu Inoue, hereafter "our company") has developed and launched the Indexable Insert type SumiDrill鈩� GDX series for sale as of November 2024.
Indexable insert type drills, which are more economical because they use less carbide and offer excellent tool management with no need for regrinding, are used in a wide range of sectors including the automotive industry, where demand is rising year by year. In addition, there is an increasing need for deep hole drilling in recent years, which is difficult for indexable insert type drills, for large machined parts such as wind power generation components.
In response to these needs, our company has developed the Indexable Insert type SumiDrill鈩� GDX series for deep hole drilling (L/D* = 7). This product realises stable drilling of deep holes, stainless steel, and general structure rolled steel, which were previously difficult to achieve with conventional indexable insert type drills.

1. Features
(1) High-rigidity body design and excellent chip evacuation
High-level balance of body rigidity and chip evacuation capability supports deep hole drilling of up to L/D = 7.
(2) Individually optimised design of central and peripheral inserts
The central and peripheral inserts have dedicated designs in accordance with the characteristics required for each. Furthermore, chip evacuation is improved through using both the general-purpose G type chipbreaker and the L type chipbreaker with excellent chip control. Exhibiting excellent performance not only on general steel but also on stainless steel and general structure rolled steel.
(3) Application of the latest grades
Utilizing coated carbide grade ACU2500, which is suitable for a variety of work materials.
Moreover for the peripheral insert, ACP2000 for steel machining, and ACS3000 for exotic alloys machining, can selected to achieve a longer tool life.
