We have expanded our presence on the eastern coast of South America with the opening of the newest GAC office, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This extends our coverage from the northernmost ports on the River Plate down to Tierra del Fuego at the southern tip of the country.

For many years, GAC has been handling vessels calling at Argentina’s ports through sub-agents. But now, we are doing so directly, just as we do in Brazil, Guyana, Trinidad and Uruguay.

The new office provides a range of shipping services for all types of vessels, but with a particular focus on those involved in established and new offshore and energy projects. We will also provide comprehensive support for tankers importing and exporting oil and gas, as well as general shipping services for all types of vessels calling at Argentinian ports.

Symbiotic
“In my 31 years working in South America's shipping sector, I have seen that the maritime communities in Uruguay and Argentina work closely together, with Uruguay serving as a hub for husbandry, bunkers, project cargoes and other supporting services,” says Erica Gomez, our General Manager responsible for both countries. “We are now drawing on our strengths to take advantage of that symbiotic relationship to provide seamless support for our customers.”

Our network in the Americas is growing, in response to the latest developments in energy projects, including ongoing production from the Vaca Muerta shale formation discovered more than a decade ago, seismic surveys and deepwater drilling for oil and gas in the Northern Argentina basin, and exploration in shallow waters off Tierra del Fuego. Energy projects are also being developed in the Golfo de San Matías, in preparation for the future construction of gas and oil pipelines which will play a key role in enhancing regional energy connectivity and export capacity and supporting long-term growth across Argentina’s southern energy corridor.

Darren Martin, GAC’s Group Vice President for the Americas, says: “The rapid growth of crude oil and LNG exports from the United States demonstrates the global demand for new sources of supply, and Argentina is well positioned to follow suit. With the Vaca Muerta field – the largest shale formation oustide the US – Argentina has the potential to become a major player in this sector.”
