TGS, a global provider of subsurface data and energy intelligence, has awarded a contract to Tape Ark to migrate approximately 40 petabytes of seismic and subsurface data into a cloud environment. The program represents one of the largest cloud-migration initiatives of its kind within the energy sector.
By transitioning tens of petabytes of data into a hyperscale cloud environment, TGS is strengthening the digital foundation that underpins its imaging, analytics, and data-delivery workflows. The initiative will enable:
- On-demand access to TGS锟 global data library
- Scalable high-performance computing for imaging and advanced analytics
- Improved collaboration across subsurface and digital teams
- Faster turnaround times for project delivery and customer workflows
锟絎ith ongoing investment in modernizing our data and technology platform, this migration is a key step in how we continue to evolve TGS锟 data and technology platform,锟 said Wadii El Karkouri, Executive Vice President of Imaging & Technology at TGS. 锟絀t enables greater speed, scale, and flexibility in how our customers access and use subsurface data.锟
Tape Ark锟絪 ingest platform supports parallel, high-throughput processing across multiple facilities, allowing petabyte-scale datasets to be migrated efficiently and aligned with TGS锟 internal processing and delivery workflows.
锟絋GS has a clear vision for how subsurface data should be accessed and used in a cloud-first environment. Our platform was designed specifically to support migration programs of this scale, and we锟絩e pleased to support TGS as it advances its global digital infrastructure,锟 commented, Guy Holmes, Founder & CEO of Tape Ark.
Under the agreement, Tape Ark will:
- Migrate approximately 40 PB of data into a cloud environment
- Deliver cloud-native data formats compatible with TGS platforms
- Enable faster data availability for internal teams and customers
- Support reduced data-delivery timelines
Once complete, the program will further strengthen TGS锟 ability to deliver scalable, cloud-enabled data access to customers worldwide.
