The Orca Norte-1 well, whose drilling began last November and was completed successfully in January, confirmed the presence of two gas accumulations in reservoirs different from the Orca-1 discovery, which activates a reevaluation of the original project, to which time expanding the gas potential of La Guajira Offshore.
Orca Norte-1 was the first deepwater well operated one hundred percent by Ecopetrol SA, under the highest industry standards, with one of the best operational performances of the wells in the Colombian Caribbean and without incidents that affected people or the environment. environment.
The results of this new discovery will continue to be evaluated to determine its commercial viability. Regarding the development of drilling this well, the following milestones stand out:
- The well was drilled in record time (38 days) with a performance of 3.7 days per 1,000 feet drilled and a non-productive time of 7%; both world-class brands in offshore operations.
- The application of international standards facilitated drilling within the planned cost and time ranges.
- Important subsoil information was obtained both in the delimitation objective and in new intervals of exploratory interest found.
- The excellent quality of work allowed the entire planned records program to be successfully completed.
- Industrial safety practices were applied that incorporated the extensive experience of our allies and contractors, and as a result there were no recordable incidents.
Orca Norte – 1 adds to the recent exploratory successes in the different offshore provinces of the Colombian Caribbean: Gorgon-2 ST2 and Uchuva-1 in 2022, and Glaucus-1 in 2023, thus confirming the gas potential in different areas of offshore subsoil and opens options for the organic supply of this important resource for the country.
