RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil — Petrobras has discovered oil in the Anhangá prospect in the ultradeepwater Potiguar Basin on the Brazilian Equatorial Margin.
The 1-BRSA-1390-RNS (Anhangá) well, in the POT-M-762_R15 concession, is 190 km from Fortaleza and 250 km from Natal, in a water depth of 2,196 m.
It is the company’s second find this year in the Potiguar Basin following the Pitu Oeste well in BM-POT-17, 24 km distant. Both discoveries will need to undergo further assessment, the company added.
Drilling has confirmed oil-bearing Albian-age turbidite reservoirs, as revealed by electrical profiles and oil samples, with further laboratory analysis to follow.
Petrobras plans more exploratory activities in POT-M-762_R15 to assess the quality of the reservoirs, the characteristics of the oil and the technical/commercial viability of Anhangá.
The company intends to invest $3.1 billion in exploration in the Equatorial Margin, which stretches from Amapá to Rio Grande do Norte, between now and 2028, with a total of 16 wells across the region.
