TotalEnergies has agreed to acquire 25% interest in Block 53 offshore Suriname from Spain’s Moeve, the French energy giant said June 27.
Block 53 is operated by APA, which holds a 45% interest, and Petronas, which holds a 30% interest.
The block is east of Block 58, which holds the Baja-1 discovery and is where TotalEnergies holds 40% interest as operator. TotalEnergies and its partners are developing the Gran Morgu project in Block 58.
SBM Offshore and a TotalEnergies affiliate signed an operations and maintenance contract for the GranMorgu FPSO last week. The FPSO is expected to be Suriname’s first large deepwater project.
First oil is expected in 2028 from GranMorgu.
“This acquisition brings new resources to the development of our low-cost and low-emission GranMorgu project”, said Javier Rielo, Senior Vice President Americas, Exploration & Production at TotalEnergies. “It also proves how TotalEnergies will leverage GranMorgu infrastructure to develop profitably additional resources and extend its production plateau, strengthening the position of the company in the offshore of Suriname.”
