Under the patronage of the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Engineer Hayyan Abdul-Ghani Al-Sawad, and with the support and follow-up of the Director General of the Oil Exploration Company, Mr. Osama Raouf Hussein, and the efforts of the national staff, the First Seismic Team achieved a significant national accomplishment in implementing the two-dimensional seismic survey program north of Fallujah in Anbar Governorate.
The Director General pointed to the field challenges, which included the agricultural nature of the area and the numerous rivers and streams that obstructed the work routes. Consequently, the program area was divided into three sections to ensure smooth implementation and accurate results. The team members were able to continue their work with a high level of determination and dedication. He added that the efforts resulted in achieving a completion rate of over 98% of the total program, with 1,775.55 km of the planned length surveyed out of a total of 1,809.65 km. He noted that the program had identified 36,193 energy points as of February 25, 2026, and that work commenced on May 23, 2025. He stated that this achievement reflects the efficiency and expertise of the national staff and their ability to meet field challenges and achieve the objectives of important exploration projects that contribute to supporting the oil and gas sector in Iraq.
The Director General emphasized that the completion of the seismic survey program north of Fallujah represents a significant step in supporting national efforts aimed at developing the oil and gas sector and enhancing exploration operations in Iraq. He added that the program was implemented for the benefit of the Middle Oil Company as part of the Ministry of Oil's plans to expand the geological and geophysical database, which contributes to supporting exploration studies and identifying promising oil and gas formations. He emphasized the company's continued commitment to implementing seismic survey projects in various regions of Iraq in support of the national economy.
The Director General commended the significant efforts made by the field staff and expressed his appreciation for the cooperation of local and security authorities, which contributed to the success of this program and the achievement of its objectives.
