SCHIEDAM, the Netherlands — Subsea7 has commissioned Huisman to supply a fully electric 500-metric ton offshore mast crane for installation on a pipelay vessel for deepwater installations.

The crane will feature a passive and active heave compensation system on the main hoist to counteract the vessel’s heave motion when landing a structure on the sea floor.

Huisman has upgraded its heave compensation system with various new control modes to extend the operating window for installations. It will build the new crane in Schiedam, near Rotterdam.

According to the company, the crane’s small rectangular footprint supports straightforward integration with the vessel's steel structure and direct installation of the crane on the stern, providing a large outreach while reducing integration costs.

The company constructs its offshore mast cranes from high tensile steel, eliminating the need for ballast weight.
