HOUSTON — Expro will perform the first deployment of its single shear and seal high-debris 15K ball valve assembly in the Gulf of Mexico (GoM).
This will form part of a full subsea deepwater completion/intervention system the company is designing for a subsea field in about 6,600 ft (2,000 m) water depth.
The client has requested a single-valve subsea solution instead of a conventional double-valve system with reduced risk through inclusion of an additional safety barrier.
Expro’s three-year contract for the in-riser system is valued at more than $15 million.
According to the company, the high-debris single ball system provides shear and post-shear seal on multiple sizes of coiled tubing, slickline and electrical cable for gas and liquid applications and can be deployed for in-riser or open-water environments.
It is NACE MR0175 compliant and qualified for sour hydrogen sulfide environments and to API 17G for the performance and design of subsea well intervention equipment. The capability to handle up to 15% debris is a big improvement on alternative mechanisms currently used, the company claims.
Expro’s is integrating the shear and seal ball system into its ELSA-HD 10-ksi equipment and open-water offerings.
