ProFrac and Seismos announced a partnership for the launch of Closed Loop Fracturing, connecting real-time subsurface measurements with surface automation.

Unlike traditional approaches that rely on post-job analysis or assumptions, Seismos says, the new system measures, verifies, and optimizes each stage while it’s being pumped.

Seismos says its acoustic technology allows for the calculation of pipe friction, perforation efficiency, and flow distribution for every stage and provides a verifiable link between surface execution and downhole results, effectively acting as an unbiased audit on completion quality.

“This partnership with Seismos builds on the foundation we’ve laid with ProPilot,” said Matt Wilks, executive chairman of ProFrac. “By combining ProPilot’s surface automation with Seismos’ subsurface intelligence, we’re delivering more control to operators through dynamic completion design that optimizes hydrocarbon recovery.”

The new technology is available in two modes—supervised and unsupervised. The supervised mode allows engineers and completion teams to act in real time using a continuous stream of validated subsurface data. This allows for on-the-fly optimization of stage design, fluid placement, and perforation strategy while the stage is active. The unsupervised mode allows the system to execute a set of predefined decisions based on real-time responses.
