Canada's Suncor Energy's June 25 cybersecurity incident occurred on or around June 21, the company said in a July 6 press release.
Suncor is replacing employee computers after a cybersecurity incident last week shut down debit and credit processing at Petro-Canada gas stations across the country, among a series of other security measures at the Calgary-based company, CBC reported on July 6.
While the incident hasn’t impacted Suncor’s field operations, the company’s Petro-Canada business saw temporary disruptions that “have largely been resolved,” according to the release. In addition, Suncor’s Petro-Points program was impacted by the incident. Relevant program members and privacy regulators have been notified of the impact.
On June 25, the company said in a news release that “At this time, we are not aware of any evidence that customer, supplier or employee data has been compromised or misused as a result of this situation.”
However, the company noted that “some transactions with customers and suppliers may be impacted.”
Suncor Energy has interests in oil sands development, offshore oil and gas, refining, as well as retail and wholesale distribution networks.
