Bernt Omdal, CEO of Sea1, said that the investment is part of the company’s growth strategy and confirmed that negotiations are ongoing with Cosco Shipping for the delivery of more vessels.

The OESVs will be 120 meters long, with a cargo deck of 1,400 square meters, and each will feature a 250-tonne deck crane and provide accommodations for up to 120 personnel. Both will be equipped with a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) hangar and a moonpool.

Based on the ST-245 design, the vessels are methanol-ready and the generators can operate on 100% biofuel. Once delivered in 2027, Sea1 will own a fleet of 19 offshore vessels.

Sea1 said it anticipates continued high activity in the traditional offshore oil & gas sector, with the two new vessels designed and equipped for a wide range of operations, also including the renewable energy market.

“Chartering contracts and rates are on the rise in the offshore sector, and we expect good earning potential for players who can provide modern and well-equipped ships to the market,” said Omdal.

Earlier this summer, Sea1 announced its intention to sign management agreements for six anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessels owned by Viking Supply Ships. The completion of the vessel management transfer was expected in October.

ConocoPhillips recently booked AHTS vessels from Sea1 Offshore for the Otway project.
