In the second quarter of the current year, the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) carried out 21.6 thousand meters of drilling . Drilling works increased by 14.7% compared to the same period last year. 1.9 million tons of oil 2 , 1.8 billion cubic meters 3 of gas were produced from the fields operated by the company independently or as the main shareholder . Gas production in the country increased by about 5.2% compared to 2023 and amounted to 12.5 billion cubic meters 4 in the second quarter. In general, in the second quarter of the current year, 7.2 million tons of crude oil were produced in Azerbaijan.
During the reporting period, the volume of oil exported by SOCAR to foreign markets was approximately 4.2 million tons 6 . It includes the oil volumes produced by the company with its own resources and the profit shares of the oil produced by the international consortia operating in our country belonging to the state of Azerbaijan and SOCAR. Natural gas export across the country increased by 9.2% to 6.2 billion cubic meters 7 . During the reporting period, the consumption of natural gas in the country was 2.3 billion cubic meters 8.
In the second quarter of the current year, SOCAR processed more than 9 million tons of oil and 10 more than 862 million cubic meters of gas. Processed gas volumes increased by 0.6% compared to the corresponding period of 2023. More than 659,000 tons of oil, petrochemical and gas-chemical products produced at SOCAR's facilities in Azerbaijan were exported to foreign markets. Exported oil, petrochemical and gas-chemical products increased by 8% compared to the same period last year.
