Stretching across Mauritania, Senegal, The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau and Guinea-Conakry, the MSBGC basin is emerging as one of the world’s most promising hydrocarbon frontiers. The region’s attractiveness is being bolstered by recent milestones, including first gas exports from the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) LNG project and first oil from Senegal’s Sangomar oilfield. Meanwhile, ongoing exploration across Mauritania’s ultra-deepwater blocks, The Gambia’s offshore acreage and Guinea-Bissau’s Bijagos Basin continues to reveal new geological opportunities.
Improved seismic imaging – including advanced 3D visualization, full waveform inversion and AI-driven analytics – is sharply reducing geological uncertainty and improving drilling outcomes. Investor interest is also rising, highlighted by energy major Chevron’s recent acquisition of Guinea-Bissau’s deepwater Blocks 5B and 6B, where it holds a 90% working interest alongside the country’s state-owned Petroguin. Meanwhile, Guinea-Conakry is preparing a 22-block licensing round and has opened a seismic data visualization center, further de-risking exploration and signaling expanding opportunities for international operators.
Amid these developments, the upcoming panel discussion will outline emerging frontier opportunities across the region.
