PGS modernizes offshore Guyana data ahead of deepwater lease round

PGS, with support from Guyana’s Ministry of Natural Resources, has made available 4,460 km of rejuvenated 2D GeoStreamer depth data for evaluation of blocks D1, D2 and D3.

OSLO, Norway  Earlier this month, PGS, with support from Guyana’s Ministry of Natural Resources, made available 4,460 km of rejuvenated 2D GeoStreamer depth data for evaluation of blocks D1, D2 and D3.

The 2D data were originally acquired and processed to time-domain (PSTM) in 2009.

In addition, PGS has applied quantitative interpretation products to assist identification of amplitude anomalies that indicate potential hydrocarbon presence.

The dataset should be of interest to E&P companies considering applications for Guyana’s first deepwater licensing round.

PGS added that it paid special attention to preserving amplitude fidelity. This means the data can be applied to regional screening and detailed prospect evaluation using amplitude analysis techniques, including inversion for rock properties.

Since 2015 there have been more than 25 significant hydrocarbon discoveries offshore Guyana, the company calculated, all targeting stratigraphically trapped basin floor fans.

Similar trends to the prolific Stabroek license discoveries are apparent in the outboard licensing blocks D1, D2 and D3.
