The Permian Basin’s Surge Energy has saved 7 billion gallons of freshwater since 2017 by using recycled water in its completion operations, the company said on Aug. 28.
The company said it invested heavily in water handling infrastructure to meet the milestone, which it hit in July. Surge’s water infrastructure consists of four water recycling facilities, 217 miles of water pipelines and company-owned disposal wells.
Surge’s investment in recycling produced water has cut costs for the company, Senior Vice President of Development and Operations Chris Alonzo said.
