The Tullow-operated Jubilee South East Field offshore Ghana has begun production from one well, Tullow announced on July 14.

Two more producers and a water injector are planned to go onstream later this year. Gross production from the deepwater Jubilee project is expected to exceed 100,000 bbl/d.

The Jubilee South East subsea development is tied back to the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah MV21 moored in 1,100 m water depth in the Jubilee Field. The Jubilee Field has been online since 2010. The FPSO can handle 120,000 bbl/d of oil and inject more than 230,000 bbl/d of water and 160 MMcf/d of produced gas.

Tullow and its Partners plan to maintain this increased level of production at Jubilee over the next few years through an ongoing infill drilling program. Future drilling locations have been identified to further extend the plateau and realize the potential of the resource base.

“We believe Jubilee has the potential to deliver in excess of a billion barrels of oil equivalent gross, generating material value for the people of Ghana, the partnership and our investors," Andrew G. Inglis, chairman and CEO of Kosmos Energy, a partner in the field, according to a press release.

The Ghana Ministry of Energy approved the Greater Jubilee Full Field Development in October 2017. Tullow and its partners have invested about $1 billion over the last three years on the JSE Project to drill wells and install the needed infrastructure. The majority of the complex offshore infrastructure was fabricated by local companies in Ghana, with more than 90% local workforce.

“We are well positioned for future growth with production ramping up in the second half of 2023 that will generate significant free cashflow,” Tullow CEO Rahul Dhir said in a press release.

Tullow operates the Jubilee South East project on behalf of partners Kosmos Energy, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, Petro SA and Jubilee Oil Holdings.

In related news, in the company’s July trading statement and operational update on July 12, Tullow announced that the planned shutdown of the TEN project offshore Ghana is underway to improve gas handling and support reduced flaring, and that the amended TEN plan of development is being finalized.
