Sarens eyes Malaysia as key site for upstream and pipelines

Published by , Senior Editor
Oilfield Technology,

Malaysia emerges as a key site for marine and engineering bidding with the deployment of 39 different projects over the next three years. These projects will include the construction of three central processing platforms, three onshore facilities and fabrication and the installation of approximately 900 km of pipelines.

Sarens has participated in a briefing session at the MMHE (Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering) showing the possibilities of equipment such as the SPMT

The Malaysian coast is preparing for a series of tenders in the field of floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels, which makes this territory a land full of possibilities, in scope for the next two years, for large construction companies specialised in macro projects. Malaysia is experiencing one of its greatest moments of expansion in terms of offshore natural resource exploitation. As proof of this, at least five new projects are expected to be approved before 2027.

The situation is highly advantageous, with 39 upstream projects expected to be executed offshore Malaysia, although expectations are low for this year, the forecast seems optimistic for national and foreign contractors in 2026 and 2027. Sarens, world leader in heavy lifting, engineered transport and crane rental services, has established itself in recent years as a strategic player in the region, being one of the few companies in the world specialising in heavy infrastructure transportation with global scale. On this occasion, Sarens was invited by Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd, at the facilities of MMHE (Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering), putting all its knowledge and know-how at the service of this new enterprise, providing a demonstration and sharing session.

Sarens thus reaffirms its commitment to the local industry, demonstrating that there is no project that they cannot carry out and successfully complete. Through years of experience with projects of global scope, specialising in the transport of large structures, first through land transport and later by sea, Sarens has been able to provide a wide range of services to the regional industry.

As part of this session, Sarens worked on a session focused on their SPMT, highlighting its remarkable movement capabilities and exceptional manoeuvrability, concluding with a Q&A allowing attendees to delve deeper into its impressive functionalities and address any inquiries. This comprehensive overview truly illustrated the value and versatility of the SPMT. The equipment involved in this demonstration was a twelve axle Cornetto SPMT with just a PPU (Power Pack Unit).

Sarens has extensive experience in Malaysia. It recently worked with Trans-Elite to lift and install 25 beams ranging from 26.8 to 181.6 t for the creation of the RTS Link between Malaysia and Singapore, a project that will facilitate the transport of more than 10 000 passengers per hour. It has also participated in the development of important energy projects in the region, such as the methanol plant in Sarawak and the gas extraction platform in Kasawari, as well as its involvement in GDS’ new data centre in Johor Baru, being in charge of the installation of its centre’s cooling tower, which is essential to guarantee the correct operation of the facility once it is up and running. Sarens also has joined the expansion of the Balikpapan port infrastructure with the installation of a new deodorizer unit for materials weighing more than 103 t on behalf of Pt. BKMU Tripartita Interport.
