From new partnerships between operators and service companies to ABS approving a new floating LNG design, here’s a compilation of the latest headlines in the E&P space.

Activity headlines

Turkey Receives First FLNG Production Platform

After a 51-day voyage from Singapore, Turkey’s first floating LNG (FLNG) production platform arrived in the country, Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said during a Sept. 20 ceremony.

The facility currently produces 6 MMcm/d of gas, with output expected to increase to 10 MMcm/d by first-quarter 2025, which would meet approximately 7% of Turkey’s domestic needs. The facility is expected to double the current output from the Sakarya Gas Field in the Black Sea. Production could eventually reach 20 MMcm/d of natural gas, providing gas for an additional 4.4 million households through the platform, Bayraktar said.

Following its processes at the port in Çanakkale, a city in northwestern Turkey, the platform will move to Filyos in 2025, where it will operate for the next two decades off the northern coast.

SLB and Aramco to Co-develop Digital Sustainability Tech

SLB and Aramco have agreed to co-develop and commercialize digital solutions to help mitigate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in industrial sectors, the companies said on Sept. 18. The collaboration builds on SLB's digital sustainability platform, which it announced in 2022.

The SLB digital sustainability platform allows companies to easily measure, report and verify emissions, accelerating their progress toward net zero. The agreement establishes a framework to develop several digital solutions on SLB's digital sustainability platform.

Solutions include Aramco's in-house Combined Heat Power optimization solution for improved energy efficiency and its Flare Monitoring System solution, aimed at mitigating field emissions. The companies are also co-developing a decarbonization planning solution to forecast emissions and simulate scenarios to determine optimal GHG emissions mitigation pathways.

The solutions are expected to leverage SLB's digital sustainability platform's security, data management, analytical and AI capabilities for access globally.

Hunting Expands Partnership with CRA Tubulars

Hunting Plc has expanded its partnership with advanced composite tubing company CRA Tubulars. This collaboration, announced Sept. 19, will help advance the development and commercialization of Titanium Composite Tubing (TCT), the companies said.

TCT technology offers significant well design and enhanced performance benefits tfor operators compared to conventional corrosion-resistant alloy tubing, especially for CO2 storage wells and highly corrosive oil and gas well completions, the companies said.

In addition to financial support, Hunting will provide CRA with technical assistance, including the option of applying Hunting's connection technology to TCT pipe, engineering and test lab support and expertise to implement a robust quality management system.

Hunting will also support CRA's marketing efforts in Europe and North America,  to help accelerate the adoption of TCT technology.

Kongsberg Digital Launches Operations Cockpit Interface

Kongsberg Digital launched its new Operations Cockpit for Kognitwin, using a single interface to provide real-time monitoring and streamline task execution and workflow management, Kongsberg said on Sept. 17.

The cockpit serves as a unified control center, allowing operators to carry out tasks, oversee workflows and track operational performance, such as operator rounds, mitigation tasks and shift logs.

This flexibility ensures that all relevant data is connected to the workers responsible, allowing real-time insights to guide each step.

Strohm's TCP Jumpers installed offshore Malaysia- Art

Strohm’s TCP Jumper technology has been successfully installed at the Deepwater Sabah project offshore Malaysia, the said Sept. 18.

Installed by McDermott on behalf of an international operator, it is the second time the firm's TCP product has been deployed in Malaysia. The first TCP flowline and static riser were installed at Petronas’ shallow water West Lutong Field in 2017.

The non-metallic TCP offers a corrosion-free solution for operators, according to Strohm. TCP for subsea jumpers as well as flowlines and risers have shown to reduce the CO2 footprint of pipeline infrastructures by more than 50%, the company said.

The TCP jumpers were installed subsea from the pallets, with field service support provided by Strohm.

Halliburton Announces Intelligent Automation LOGIX Platform

Halliburton introduced its next-generation LOGIX automation and remote operations platform on Sept. 18.

Halliburton promotes LOGIX as a tool to assist with autonomous drilling, streamline well delivery and potentially shorten production timelines and reduce rig time.

LOGIX merges downhole data with rig control systems to create a more efficient and reliable drilling experience. LOGIX, equipped with advanced automation controllers and surface algorithms, has used autonomous technologies to drill more than 12 million ft and achieve an improved ROP by up to 30%.

The platform's latest features use advanced machine learning algorithms to adjust drilling parameters. The improvements boost drilling efficiency, predict bit wear, reduce non-productive time and increase well delivery speed.

Regulatory updates

ABS Approves New FLNG Design from Wison

ABS approved a new design for a 268 m FLNG facility from Wison New Energies, which received approval in principle on Sep. 20.

The unit is designed to perform offshore and at shore with an expected production capacity of 1.2 million tonnes per annum. ABS completed design reviews based on class and statutory requirements.
