Rosneft Improves the Quality of Field Development Design

Scientists from the Ufa Research Institute of Rosneft have patented an innovative method for evaluating the technological efficiency of oil and gas field development.

The solution makes it possible to determine the most suitable well completion technologies, including hydraulic fracturing technologies, taking into account the geological characteristics of different areas of a field.

The method represents an algorithm implemented as a software module within the corporate information system RN-KIN. The algorithm collects and analyzes geological and physical reservoir characteristics, production data, well completion parameters, and hydraulic fracturing design parameters. It then calculates the production performance ratios of wells that would be achieved using the proposed technology relative to the production performance of wells using the currently applied technology at the field.

The solution has been successfully tested at the Priobskoye field. The test results confirm the effectiveness of the innovation in evaluating field development solutions. The application of the developed tool will improve the accuracy of assessing the efficiency of various field development technologies for decision-making on their replication. The implementation of the innovation is planned at 1,000 high-tech wells with recoverable reserves of 60 million tonnes.
