Moriah Energy InvestmentsClear Fork Inc.Cholla Petroleum

Peak 10 Acquires Verado Energy’s Eastern Shelf Strawn Assets

Peak 10 Energy is growing its portfolio in the Eastern Shelf Strawn play by acquiring Verado Energy’s assets in Scurry County, Texas.

Peak 10 Energy is growing its Eastern Shelf footprint through the acquisition of Verado Energy’s assets.

The Verado assets, purchased from sellers Black Topaz Oil & Gas LLC and Blue Topaz Oil & Gas LLC, closed Aug. 29, the companies said Sept. 4. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Verado’s assets are in Scurry County, Texas, in the core of the Hermleigh Field. Verado was one of the leading producers developing the horizontal Strawn play on the Eastern Shelf.

Verado’s assets produced around 430 bbl/d of oil and 3.1 MMcf/d of natural gas in June 2025, according to the most recent Texas Railroad Commission (RRC) data.

Peak 10, a portfolio of Austin-based Legacy Star Capital Partners, said the deal adds scale in Peak 10’s Hermleigh Field operating area.

“This acquisition is a testament to our team's ability to not only identify and close complex transactions but also to seamlessly integrate and optimize assets," said Kyle McQuire, CEO of Peak 10 Energy. "Our track record in Texas, particularly with our operated positions, has proven that Peak 10 is a reliable and effective steward of high-quality oil and gas assets."

Petrie Partners LLC served as financial adviser to Peak 10, while Gray Reed served as legal adviser.

Strawn play

Verado’s assets include the Dessie 91 #1H well, the horizontal Strawn well that helped kick off the play about a decade ago.

Verado partnered with King Operating to drill a horizontal test in the Strawn bench, which had been targeted by vertical operators on the Eastern Shelf for decades.

With King as operator and Verado as a non-operated interest holder, the companies completed the Dessie 91 #1H well in Scurry County in August 2015.

“It came in phenomenally, especially for a half-length horizontal well,” Verado CEO Chris Graham told Hart Energy last year.

After drilling a second successful Strawn well, Verado bought out its partner King Operating and took over operating the Eastern Shelf assets.

Since then, the Eastern Shelf Strawn play has emerged as a playground of sorts for private producers and family-backed teams, including Moriah Energy Investments, Clear Fork Inc. and Cholla Petroleum.

Peak 10 and Legacy Star have been active consolidators in the area. In 2023, the company acquired Clear Fork’s Hermleigh Field assets for an undisclosed amount.

Legacy Star acquired 100% of the Hermleigh asset through a newly launched platform company, Peak 10 Hermleigh LP. Peak 10 operates the Scurry County asset jointly with Browning Oil Co. Clear Fork continues to operate Strawn assets in Fisher County, Texas.

Last year, Peak 10 acquired assets from Strawn Petroleum, another offsetting Hermleigh Field operator.

The Strawn Petroleum assets produced around 800 boe/d at the time of the deal and included over 13,000 net acres.
