Chevron, Halliburton Develop New Feedback Process for Completions in Colorado

The technique combines Halliburton’s fracturing platform with Chevron’s subsurface knowledge built into an algorithm to enable decision-making.


Chevron Corp. and Halliburton Co. developed a new process in Colorado that enables closed-loop, feedback-driven completions, according to a June 12 press release.

This process builds on autonomous hydraulic fracturing technology by combining automated stage execution with subsurface feedback. It functions without human intervention, the companies said.

The new approach uses technologies from the wellsite to the cloud. Halliburton’s Zeus IQ fracturing platform provides the closed feedback loop and control capability. Chevron’s hydraulic fracturing and subsurface knowledge is built into an algorithm to enable decision-making.

Chevron said the new process improves efficiency, consistency and functionality. Operations can now adapt to environments in real time instead of using performance forecasting, the release stated.

“We drive innovation in the digital space,” said Shawn Stasiuk, Halliburton’s vice president of production enhancement. “We built the digital environment down to the field level and enable our customers to test their best ideas.”
