The Pervouralsk New Pipe Plant (PNTZ), part of the Pipe Metallurgical Company (TMK), created the technology and mastered the production of especially thick-walled semi-finished pipes intended for the production of drill joints. The company has already manufactured and shipped more than 3.3 thousand tons of new products to the client.
The use of semi-finished pipes will allow tool joint manufacturers to switch to a more efficient technology for making tool joints from pipes instead of producing them from solid blanks. Drill joints are used to quickly and securely connect drill string segments.
Semi-finished pipes are made of alloyed chrome-molybdenum steel grades and have an outer diameter from 117 to 174 mm and an inner diameter from 45 to 85.1 mm. For their production, continuously cast billets with a minimum content of non-metallic inclusions are used. To master the new type of pipes, the company developed special rolling modes and routes.
During production, the high quality of the outer and inner surfaces, the accuracy of the inner and outer diameters and the specified wall thickness are ensured. Pipes undergo a thorough visual and instrumental inspection of the surface, geometric parameters and the required macro- and microstructure of the metal.
“The project was implemented without additional investments, thanks to the synergy of the workshop employees and PNTZ technological management specialists. The company is constantly expanding its product line to meet the growing needs of consumers for high-quality products, to be present in promising market segments and to ensure its competitiveness,” said Vladimir Toporov, managing director of PNTZ.
Previously, PNTZ mastered the production of high-precision pipes up to 14 meters long from steel grades 09G2S and 20 for petrochemical industry enterprises, and also developed and manufactured profile welded pipes in nozzles made of E220 steel with additional quality requirements.
