Norwegian oil and gas company Equinor has explored a new hydrocarbon field on the continental shelf near the large Troll field in the North Sea. This is stated in a message published on March 14 on the company’s website.
Theses Equinor:
– the new deposit was named Heisenberg;
according to experts, the volume of hydrocarbons ranges from 24 to 84 million barrels. in oil equivalent, and there is much more oil in the field than gas;
– to accurately determine the volumes and the possibility of their extraction, it is necessary to drill an appraisal well;
– it is expected that this process will start in 2024;
the field is of commercial interest because it can be connected to the existing infrastructure of the Troll field.
Theses of the representative of Equinor G. Serthveit:
– we plan to further explore this area, while at the same time considering possible solutions for the development of already discovered deposits;
– We have a good infrastructure in the area and can quickly bring competitive barrels to market at a low price and with low CO2 emissions.
The discovery made has been 8m on the Norwegian continental shelf in the North Sea since autumn 2019. On February 9, 2023, the seventh oil field was discovered 10 km northwest of the Troll field in the North Sea, 130 km northwest of Bergen and Røver Sør gas.
Recall that in January 2023, Equinor received 26 new licenses for the extraction of energy resources on the continental shelf from the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy. Now the kingdom is one of the key exporters of oil and gas to Europe.
